Some poor unhappy squirrel (I think) is out there with no milk to alleviate their bad decision. #1like1prayer
Ridgeline and oregano, lots of homemade spaghetti sauce coming up this year!!! #oregano #lettuce #canyouimagine #lettuceinspaghettisauce #someonediditprobably
1.5 inches of rain in two days!!! Considering I’ve forgotten how long it has been since the last real rain, this is incredible. #rain #water #tucson #asinglepersonuses100gallonsofwaterperdayonaverage
These bees had taken up a home in my Palo Verde tree (the second colony!) February seems like a great time for removal because they cluster like this for warmth. A local beekeeper came by, vacuumed them up, and they are in a brand new *safe* home! This tree has a few hollow branches and may come down soon. That’s life. The plan this spring and summer is to grow things like peppers and tomatoes, meaning wind pollination will be enough. I can feel spring right around the corner.. #bees #beehive #beebearding #paloverde #tucson #arizona #beekeepers #bee #pollinators #garden #beeremoval #gardenblog #instagardeners #zone9a
These pickled peppers from fall were turned into hot sauce!!! Better than Cholula ONLY because it is homemade. Next time I’ll roast some of them, but fresh is super good so I don’t mind. Happy weekend! #Pickledpeppers #pickled #homemade #notarealchef #gardenkitchen #homemade #pickles #pickle #pickledzucchini #gardentoplate #wishtherewasmore
Ripped apart a heat-treated pallet today for a DIY bee trap. I plan to catch some and start beekeeping! The last time bees were smoked in the tree here they were considered regular honey bees. They swarmed right after the smoking, so I’m banking on that happening again. Otherwise I’ll wait until someone has a swarm in their yard. Still have to buy a hive so no hurry haha Tools for pallet-breakdown: hatchet, hammer, awl (for hammering sawed-off nails out the opposite direction so I can get the hammer claw under their heads). The jury is split on pheromone products. I’m thinking of wiping local beeswax on the boards to simulate a previously used box. The trees out here are spitting out nectar and pollen BIG time so there’s a good chance I won’t need sugar water. I’ll update on all this as I do it! #pallet #palletproject #heattreated #diy #swarmtrap #beekeeping #hivebuilding #bees
It's raining, it's 46F, and I'm sick again(!!), so I'm digging back into my photos for pictures I missed posting. This one is of the last of the tomatoes off the three year old tomato plant before I pulled it. The plant had gone root wild and the container wasn't draining right. I salute this old volunteer cherry tomato! #volunteer #cherrytomato #tomato #tomatoes #greentomatoes
My garlic came up! They didn't stay intact, but at least I'll have a ton of it! That tiny bulb I had this year should have been replanted instead of eaten but I couldn't resist.. #garlic #andthereforepickles
